31st Annual First Swing Amputee Golf Clinic: Adaptive Golf & Community in Monmouth County, New Jersey
There’s something special about getting a group of amputees together outside of a clinical setting.
No pressure.
No expectations.
Just people showing up, trying something new, and supporting each other.
That’s exactly what the First Swing Golf Clinic has been about for the past 31 years—and we’re excited to be hosting it again this year.
The First Swing Golf Clinic is an adaptive golf event designed specifically for amputees, combining prosthetic rehabilitation, community support, and real-world activity in a relaxed setting.
What This Day Is Really About
On the surface, it’s an adaptive golf clinic for amputees.
But if you’ve been to one before, you know it’s a lot more than that.
It’s:
Someone trying something for the first time
Someone realizing they’re capable of more than they thought
Conversations that only happen when you’re around people who truly understand
There’s no expectation to “be good” at golf.
Most people who come out have never picked up a club before.
That’s not the point.
What to Expect
The day is designed to be relaxed, welcoming, and accessible to everyone.
You can expect:
A casual, supportive environment
Instruction and help from rehab professionals
Adaptive equipment available to try
Plenty of time to move at your own pace
And honestly, a lot of laughs.
Here, don't believe us? Check out last year's video.
Why Events Like This Matter
We see it all the time.
Someone comes in unsure, maybe even a little hesitant.
Then something clicks.
They hit a ball.
They connect with someone.
They realize they’re not alone in this.
And that moment carries over into everything else—walking, confidence, daily life.
That’s why we put so much effort into these events.
Because progress doesn’t just happen in the clinic.
⛳ Hosted at Spring Meadow Golf Course
We’re excited to be back at Spring Meadow Golf Course in Farmingdale, New Jersey—a course that’s not only beautiful, but also comfortable and accessible for a day like this.
It’s the kind of setting that makes it easy to relax, take your time, and just enjoy being out there.
Lunch will be provided for all attendees, courtesy of Manfredi O&P, and will be prepared by Chef Wesley Dustin of Meadow 28.
It’s a great chance to sit down, connect with others, and ease into the day before heading out onto the course.
Between the setting, the people, and the energy of the event, it really sets the tone for what the day is all about.
Making Adaptive Golf More Accessible
The First Swing Golf Clinic is made possible in part through partnerships with organizations like the Eastern Amputee Golf Association, who have been creating opportunities for amputees to get involved in adaptive golf for years.
Their mission is simple—help more people get out, stay active, and realize what they’re capable of.
That’s something we believe in just as strongly.
Events like this continue to grow because of collaboration like this. When you bring together experienced organizations, rehab professionals, and patients who are willing to try something new, it creates an environment where people can safely push themselves and build confidence.
And that’s really the goal.
Not just learning how to swing a golf club—but opening the door to new activities, new connections, and new possibilities.
A longtime instructor at this event, Lou Namm brings a steady, encouraging presence that helps set the tone and makes it easier for participants to feel comfortable trying something new.
Built-In Support from Rehab Professionals
One of the things that makes this day unique is what happens before anyone even steps onto the course.
In the morning, local rehab professionals—physical therapists, clinicians, and specialists—come together for a dedicated educational session where they earn continuing education credits (CEUs).
But this isn’t just classroom learning.
After lunch, they bring everything they just learned directly out onto the course.
That means when participants arrive, they’re surrounded by professionals who are:
Up to date on adaptive techniques
Familiar with different ability levels
Ready to help you move safely and confidently
It creates a really unique environment where learning and real-world application happen at the same time.
You’re not just trying something new—you’ve got the right people there to guide you, adjust things as needed, and make sure you’re having a good, safe time.
And honestly, that’s what makes the whole experience feel so comfortable.
You can relax, take your time, and just enjoy being out there.
Part of a Bigger Community
The First Swing Golf Clinic is just one part of what we’re building with our Manfredi O&P Community.
From monthly support groups like Out on a Limb or amputee fitness programs with our partners at FORGED Amputee Wellness to events like this, the goal is simple:
👉 Give people opportunities to stay active, stay connected, and keep moving forward.
We’ve seen firsthand how powerful that can be.
We’re proud to support amputees throughout Monmouth County, Ocean County, and across New Jersey through events like this—creating more opportunities to stay active, connected, and moving forward.
Who Should Come
This is for you if:
You’re new to limb loss
You’ve been doing this for years
You’re curious but not sure what to expect
You just want to get out and be around people who get it
You don’t need experience.
You don’t need to “prepare.”
You just have to show up.
Events like this are an important part of amputee rehabilitation and long-term success with a prosthesis. Staying active, trying adaptive sports, and connecting with others in the amputee community can make a significant difference in both physical and mental progress.
We’d Love to See You There
Events like this only work because people show up—and every year, it gets better because of the community around it.
If you’ve been thinking about coming to something like this, this is a great place to start.
Come out.
Try something new.
Meet some good people.
