More Than a Game: The First Swing Golf Experience
At Manfredi O&P Affiliates, we believe mobility is more than movement — it’s freedom, confidence, and the foundation for living a meaningful life. That’s why the First Swing Golf Event holds such a special place in our hearts.
Each year, as the event approaches, there’s a sense of anticipation. We know what’s coming — and we know what it means. The feeling of watching someone with limb loss swing a club for the first time and realize they can. The joy of seeing a therapist apply something they just learned that morning to help someone thrive that same afternoon. The power of shared purpose, movement, and community connection.
That’s what First Swing is all about.
Hosted at the beautiful Charleston Springs Golf Course, this unforgettable event brought together individuals with limb loss, rehabilitation professionals, instructors, and volunteers for a day filled with learning, laughter, and powerful breakthroughs.
Learning Through Movement: CEU Training in the Morning
The day began with a continuing education seminar led by Lou Namm of the Eastern Amputee Golf Association and our own Jean Manfredi. Area rehabilitation professionals earned CEU credits while gaining practical skills in adaptive sports instruction.
This seminar wasn’t just theory — it was hands-on, focused, and filled with techniques that could be immediately applied in clinical settings and beyond. And best of all, those same professionals put their new knowledge to work just hours later.
A powerful team of rehabilitation professionals helping bring First Swing to life.
Bringing It to Life: Adaptive Golf in the Afternoon ⛳
In the afternoon, the group moved to the driving range — and that’s when the magic really happened.
Participants of all ages and backgrounds stepped up to the tee with confidence, while therapists and volunteers supported their swings with guidance, encouragement, and excitement. From first-time golfers to seasoned participants, the atmosphere was electric — a perfect mix of support, skill-building, and smiles.
It’s these moments — a perfect swing, a burst of laughter, a quiet “I didn’t think I could do that” — that remind us why we do what we do.
A bird’s-eye view of First Swing — grippin’, rippin’, and connecting through every swing.
